Mental Health First Aid (MHFA), a certification course created by the National Council for Wellbeing, can help reduce workers’ compensation costs by promoting a healthier workplace that addresses mental health concerns early on. Through this training, participants learn to spot signs of stress, anxiety, and burnout, which can prevent these issues from escalating into serious conditions that could result in expensive claims. By reducing workplace stress, encouraging support, preventing crises, and enhancing employee retention, MHFA fosters a positive workplace culture that helps lower absenteeism, injuries, and legal risks, ultimately decreasing workers’ compensation claims related to mental health. This evidence-based course, which uses community-tailored scenarios, activities, and videos, equips participants with the skills to recognize and respond to mental health and substance use challenges, offering support until professional help is secured. Participants will be provided with 2 books that accompany this course.

This certification course covers:

  •  Common signs and symptoms of mental health challenges
  •  Common signs and symptoms of substance use challenges
  •  How to interact with someone in crisis
  •  How to connect someone to professional help
  •  Expanded topics on trauma, substance use, and self-care
